Fine Arts Requirement

Beginning with the Class of 2022, all students will be required to complete one credit in Fine Arts/Humanities as a requirement for Graduation.

Courses will be offered in the Art Department as well as in Creative Writing, Art History, Theater, and Music to fulfill this requirement. The Program of Studies has more information on these courses, as do the Fine Arts, Englsih and Social Studies Department pages.

“I believe arts education in music, theater, dance, and the visual arts is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface. (People) have an enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training – training that prepares them to become confident young men and women.”
– Richard W. Riley, Former US Secretary of Education

The AC Arts Council is a group of students who recognize the importance of integrating the arts into their high school experience.  Its mission is to initiate events and activities -- big and small -- that will cultivate school spirit through the arts.  What kinds of events and activities?  Well, that is up to the council, but ideas might include an open mic series showcasing student writing, music, visual art, videos; visits to local museums and theatres; workshops; book talks, project sharing, and guest speakers.

The Arts Council will meet every other cycle during WIN period.  This opportunity is open to students from all grade levels.
